The advertised price isn't the monthly price
Trello's pricing page shows annual-billing rates by default — the same convention ClickUp and Notion use. A reader skimming the page sees $5 (Standard) and $10 (Premium) and reasonably takes them for the monthly price. They're not: those are the annual-billing rates, what each month costs when you pay for a year up front. Billed month-to-month, the real prices are $6 and $12.50 per user.
The gap is about 17% on Standard and 20% on Premium. Put differently: a 10-person team on Standard pays $60/month billed monthly, or $50/month billed annually — a $10/month difference for committing to the year up front. On Premium the same team pays $125/month billed monthly vs $100 annually.
Neither number is dishonest — defaulting to the annual rate is standard practice across per-seat tools. But when you're budgeting, use the monthly figure unless you're certain you'll commit to twelve months up front.
When does free Trello stop being enough?
Trello's free plan is genuinely useful, and its limits are easy to state: 10 boards per Workspace, 10 collaborators per Workspace, unlimited cards. Because cards are unlimited, it isn't usage volume that pushes a team off the free plan — it's breadth. The squeeze arrives as the 11th board or the 11th person.
Both caps arrive faster than they sound. A team running one board per project or client hits 10 boards within a few months of normal growth, and 10 collaborators includes everyone you invite — a contractor or a client counts. At that point the upgrade path is Standard at $6 per user per month billed monthly: $30/month for 5 people, $60/month for 10. Still cheap — the squeeze is real, but the first rung of the ladder is low.

Is Trello worth it?
Honestly: for a small team that just needs a kanban board, yes — and cheaper than almost everything else, including us.
