Building and renovation

Getting affordable homes built and families moved in

An affordable housing build puts crews, volunteers and subcontractors on one site with a fixed budget, while buyers wait for their move-in dates. Here the build is one project: a to-do list per row of houses, progress photos, the crew's chat, inspection reports and the build days.

The Quincy Avenue Cottage Court project in Thicket over a photograph of a quiet street of small houses and oak trees under a wide morning sky: the health flag reading On track, the build dates and six people, then six cards: the Message Board with the north row dried in on top, Progress photos as nine photographs of cottages being framed, roofed and drywalled, To-dos with three lists on the progress chart, the Calendar with the families' walk-through and the volunteer siding day, the Site crew chat, and Plans and papers with the inspection reports, the buyers' selections and the hydrant fix.

Post Oak Housing Trust posts each milestone and the hydrant news on the Message Board and keeps a list for each row of cottages in To-dos, on the progress chart. Progress photos, the plans, the inspection reports and the buyers' color picks sit in Docs & Files, the site crew posts the morning's plan in Chat, and the Calendar holds the volunteer build days, the hydrant tap and the families' walk-through.
