Teaching a winter of avalanche courses

An avalanche course needs enough students, two instructors and terrain the snowpack allows on the day, and each of those can change within a week. This project holds course dates and rosters, field day photos, snowpack notes and each guide's plan for the next day.

The Winter Avalanche Courses project in Thicket over a photograph of a mountain lake below snowy peaks: the health flag reading At risk, the season's dates and six people, then six cards: In the field as nine photographs of students digging snow pits and practicing rescues on a ridge, the Message Board with the snowcat's broken track drive on top, Course rosters with courses in Open, Full and This week, To-dos with four lists on the progress chart, Course dates with the high school program next, and Tomorrow's terrain with the guides' latest answers.

North Fork Guides posts snowpack notes and course news on the Message Board and keeps photos from each field day in Docs & Files. Every course moves from open to full to done on Boards, the Calendar holds the course dates, and the AST 1 weekends, the AST 2, the rescue gear and the school program are four lists in To-dos on the progress chart. At 5pm each guide answers one question in Check-ins: where the group goes tomorrow, and why.
