Group Chat and Direct Messages

Group chat rooms for projects and private direct messages.

Chat in Thicket

Thicket has two kinds of chat: a group chat room in each project, and direct messages for private conversations.

Project Chat

Every project can have its own chat room — a casual space for the people on the project:

  1. Open a project with Chat enabled
  2. Click the Chat tab
  3. Type your message and press Enter to send

Direct Messages

Direct messages are private conversations outside of any project:

  • Start a chat with one person, or with several people at once
  • Direct messages are visible only to their participants
  • You can message admins, owners, and anyone you share a project with

Chat Features

  • Mentions — type @ followed by a name to mention someone and send them a notification
  • Links — URLs become clickable links
  • Formatting — add basic rich text to your messages

When to Use Chat vs Messages

  • Chat — quick questions, casual conversation, day-to-day coordination
  • Messages — important announcements, detailed updates, decisions that need to be referenced later

Chat is great for the day-to-day, while Message Boards are better for things that need to be found later.
